Fourth of July cookouts have a built-in waiting problem: the fireworks don’t start until dark, and in midsummer that can mean 9:30 p.m. Fourth of July bingo is the game for that long golden afternoon. Set up a table in the shade, hand out cards, and let the kids and grandparents play while burgers come off the grill. In 2027, July 4 lands on a Sunday, with the federal holiday observed on Monday, July 5, so many towns will run parades and fireworks across the long weekend.

How do you play Fourth of July bingo?

A caller reads patriotic words, players cover matches, and five in a row wins.

  1. Print one card per player from the generator at the top of this page.
  2. Cut the calling list at the bottom of the page into slips and put them in a patriotic hat, a cooler cup or a mason jar.
  3. Pick a caller with a big voice. Outdoors, sound carries away.
  4. Draw and announce each word: “Uncle Sam!”
  5. Players mark the matching square. The center square is free.
  6. The first player with a full row, column or diagonal yells “Bingo!” (or “Freedom!”) and claims a prize.

How many Fourth of July bingo cards should I print?

One per player plus about five extras. Fourth of July parties tend to grow as neighbors wander over. For a block party of 40, print 45 to 50. Every card from the generator is different, so you can print as many as you need.

Print on white cardstock and give each player a red or blue marker. Clipboards help on a breezy day.

Variations for cookouts and camps

  • Parade spotting. Bring cards to your town parade. Players mark things they see, like Marching Band, Bald Eagle floats, American Flag and Uncle Sam on stilts.
  • History bingo. Each time a word like 1776, Declaration or Liberty Bell is called, the caller asks a quick question. A correct answer earns a free square anywhere on the card.
  • Star pattern round. After a straight line, play the star pattern, then finish with a blackout just before dark.
  • Summer camp edition. Camps can mix these cards with our beach bingo cards for a full week of summer games.

Tips for an outdoor game

  • Weigh down the calling slips. A jar with a lid keeps them from blowing away.
  • Shade and water. Older relatives and young kids both need breaks from the heat. Set the bingo table in the shade.
  • Keep markers simple. Use markers or crayons outdoors; chips and candy get lost in the grass or melt.
  • Firework safety first. Never use sparklers as a game prop, and keep kids away from fireworks areas.

Fourth of July bingo prize ideas

Red, white and blue prizes add to the fun: flag pins, glow sticks, patriotic sunglasses, mini flags, bubbles, freeze pops, sidewalk chalk or star-shaped cookies. For adults, consider a grilling spice rub, a cooler cup or a citronella candle. More ideas are in our bingo prize guide.
