Free Printable Beach Bingo Cards (Scavenger Hunt for Kids)

Quick answer

Beach bingo is a scavenger hunt played on the sand. Each player gets a card with things to find or spot at the beach, like a seashell, a crab, a lifeguard stand, a kite or a sandcastle. Players mark squares as they see them, and the first to complete a row, column or diagonal wins. It keeps kids exploring close by and works at oceans, lakes and bays.

50 unique words. Each card uses 24. More words means more varied cards.

Every card shows an ID like START-001. Enter the same set code with the same settings to rebuild the exact same cards and check a winner.

A beach day can go from magical to “I’m bored” surprisingly fast, especially once the sandcastle collapses. Beach bingo gives kids a mission: walk the tide line, look closely at the water and notice everything from sea glass to a plane towing a banner. It’s a nature walk disguised as a game, and it keeps kids within sight.

How do you play beach bingo?

Players hunt for items on their card and mark them off as they find or see them.

  1. Print one card per player from the generator at the top of this page.
  2. Put each card in a zip-top bag or sheet protector with a crayon or dry-erase marker.
  3. Set boundaries. For example, “between the lifeguard stand and the blue umbrella.”
  4. Players explore and mark items they spot: a pelican diving, a crab scuttling, a kite in the air.
  5. The first to complete a row, column or diagonal shouts “Bingo!” The center square is free.
  6. Keep going for a full card if the beach day is long.

How many beach bingo cards should I print?

One per child per beach day, plus a spare in case one gets wet. If you’re on a week-long vacation, print a stack of 15 to 20 at home so each day starts fresh. Every card from the generator has a different layout.

Beach safety rules for the game

  • Stay in the zone. Agree on boundaries and a meeting spot before anyone goes exploring.
  • Look, don’t touch. Leave crabs, jellyfish and starfish alone. Some jellyfish can sting even when washed up.
  • Water squares are for spotting. Kids can mark “Waves” or “Dolphin” from the sand. Only swim with an adult watching, and near a lifeguard when possible.
  • Sun breaks. Reapply sunscreen when someone marks “Sunscreen.” It’s a built-in reminder.

Variations

  • Tide pool edition. At a rocky beach, make a card with tide pool creatures like anemones, snails and barnacles using the custom bingo card generator.
  • Boardwalk bingo. Take cards for an evening walk on the boardwalk and look for food stands, rides and street performers.
  • Shell sort. When a player marks “Seashell,” they look for a different shape or color to show the group.
  • Sunset finale. End the day with a blackout challenge that has to be finished before the sun goes down.

Tips for families

  • Ages 3 to 5: pair with an older sibling or parent, and add a quick doodle next to each word.
  • Ages 6 to 10: let them play independently within the boundaries.
  • Tweens: turn it into a photo challenge. Each square needs a picture.
  • Leave no trace. Pick up trash you find along the way.

Prize ideas

Beach prizes are easy: an ice cream from the boardwalk, a new pail and shovel, a pinwheel, a beach ball, bubbles, a sea creature toy or choosing tonight’s dinner spot. More in our bingo prize ideas guide.

Bring a card for the drive too. Our road trip bingo cards cover the miles between home and the shore, and our Fourth of July bingo is perfect for a holiday at the beach.

Frequently asked questions

Can you play beach bingo at a lake?

Yes. Most squares, like sandcastle, kite, sunscreen and waves, work at a lake beach. Swap ocean-only items using the custom generator if you like.

How do you keep beach bingo cards from blowing away?

Clip cards to a clipboard or slide them into a zip-top bag. A sheet protector with a dry-erase marker also keeps them dry.

Should kids collect what they find for beach bingo?

Spotting is enough. Leave live animals like crabs and starfish where they are, and check local rules before taking shells or sea glass home.
