How to play bingo in 4 steps
- Get a card. A US bingo card has 24 numbers under B-I-N-G-O and a free space in the middle.
- Listen for the pattern. The caller says what you need to win — a line, four corners, a blackout.
- Mark called numbers. When a number on your card is called, dab it.
- Shout "Bingo!" Complete the pattern first and the caller checks your card. You win.

Bingo questions, answered
How do you play bingo?
Each player gets a card of numbers. A caller draws numbered balls at random and announces them. Players mark any called number on their card, and the first player to complete the announced pattern — such as a straight line — shouts "Bingo!" and wins once the caller checks their card.
What type of bingo is played in the US?
Most US bingo halls and apps play 75-ball bingo. The card is a 5×5 grid under the letters B-I-N-G-O, with a free space in the middle. Each column holds numbers from its own range: B is 1–15, I is 16–30, N is 31–45, G is 46–60 and O is 61–75.
Is bingo legal in the United States?
Bingo is legal in some form in almost every state, most often as charitable bingo run by licensed nonprofits such as churches, veterans groups and fire departments. Real-money online bingo is far more limited and depends on state law. See our state-by-state guide for the rules where you live.
