In March, bingo halls and senior centers across the country go green. St. Patrick’s Day bingo is a tradition at church halls, American Legion posts and assisted living communities, and it’s just as popular in elementary classrooms, where leprechaun traps and gold coins are already part of the week. In 2027, St. Patrick’s Day falls on Wednesday, March 17, so many towns will hold their parades on the weekend before.

How do you play St. Patrick’s Day bingo?

It’s classic bingo with lucky words in place of numbers.

  1. Print one card per player from the generator at the top of this page.
  2. Cut the calling list at the bottom of this page into slips and put them in a black “pot of gold” or green top hat.
  3. Draw one word at a time and read it in your best Irish lilt.
  4. Players mark matches with a green marker, gold coin or shamrock sticker.
  5. The first to complete a row, column or diagonal shouts “Bingo!” The center square is free.

How many St. Patrick’s Day bingo cards should I print?

One per player plus a few extras. A class of 25 needs about 28 cards; a senior center social with 40 residents might need 45. Every card from the generator is unique. Green paper looks festive, but white paper with green daubers is easier for anyone with low vision to read.

Variations to keep it lucky

  • Four-leaf finish. After a straight-line win, play four corners: one corner for each leaf of a four-leaf clover.
  • Rainbow round. Play a blackout, and the winner gets the “pot of gold” prize at the end of the rainbow.
  • Leprechaun trick. Hide one “lucky” slip in the hat. When it’s drawn, every player may mark any one square of their choice.
  • Irish music bingo. Play a few seconds of a jig or fiddle tune between calls to set the mood.

Tips for seniors and adult groups

For senior communities, call each word twice, slowly, and hold it up for the room. Print cards with our large print bingo cards option for residents with low vision. Words like Corned Beef, Soda Bread and Irish Dance spark great conversations about family heritage and past parades. Our guide to bingo for seniors has more on pacing and accessibility.

For adult parties, keep it friendly. You can play bingo without turning it into a drinking game; mint shakes, soda bread and corned beef sliders keep the party going for everyone.

Tips for classrooms

  • Pair the game with a leprechaun trap activity. When “Trap” is called, kids can show off their designs.
  • Use gold-wrapped chocolate coins as markers, then let kids keep a few as a treat (after checking allergies).
  • Many of the words, like Green, Gold and Luck, are great early-reader practice.

Teachers can find more management tips in our classroom bingo guide.

St. Patrick’s Day bingo prize ideas

Spring parties keep coming. Our Easter bingo cards are ready for later in March 2027.
