Mother’s Day is usually about doing something for Mom, but at most gatherings she’d rather play a game with the whole family than sit and watch everyone else do the dishes. Mother’s Day bingo is gentle and sweet, and it doubles as a conversation starter about favorite recipes, bedtime stories and old family photos. In 2027, Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 9.

How do you play Mother’s Day bingo?

It’s regular bingo with Mom-themed words.

  1. Print a card for each guest from the generator at the top of this page.
  2. Cut the calling list at the bottom of this page into slips and put them in a teapot, vase or flower pot.
  3. Let the youngest child be the caller, with help if needed.
  4. Players mark matching squares with a pen, a sticker or a candy.
  5. The first to complete a row, column or diagonal calls “Bingo!” The center square is free.

How many Mother’s Day bingo cards should I print?

One per guest plus a few spares. A family brunch for 12 needs about 15 cards; a church tea or women’s group of 50 needs about 55. Every card from the generator is different, so you won’t have a table full of tied winners.

Ideas for different gatherings

  • Family brunch. Play between courses. Mom gets a card too, and if she wins, she picks a chore to hand off for a week.
  • Church or women’s group tea. Print on floral cardstock and use the game as a social mixer. When a word is called, ask a guest to share a quick memory.
  • Classroom celebration. Invite moms and grandmothers in for a “muffins with Mom” morning. Kids and moms share a card.
  • Senior centers and assisted living. Use our large print bingo cards for residents with low vision. Words like Recipe, Lullaby and Apron spark wonderful stories. Our guide to bingo for seniors covers pacing and accessibility.

Variations

  • Memory bingo. When a square is marked, the player shares a memory connected to it, like a favorite recipe or bedtime story.
  • “Mom says” bingo. Use the custom bingo card generator to make squares from Mom’s famous sayings: “Because I said so,” “Wear a jacket,” “Were you raised in a barn?”
  • Heart pattern. After a straight line, try the heart pattern for a sweet second round.
  • Garden round. Play a blackout game with a potted plant as the grand prize.

Mother’s Day bingo prize ideas

Small, pretty gifts work best: a single carnation or rose, a potted succulent, scented hand cream, a candle, a tea sampler, a bath bomb, nice chocolates or a framed family photo. In senior communities, a fresh corsage or a small bouquet is always a hit. For more ideas, see our bingo prize ideas.

Tips for a relaxed game

  • Keep it short. Two or three rounds of 10 minutes each is enough for brunch.
  • Let Mom choose. She picks the pattern, the caller and the prizes.
  • Include everyone. Stepmoms, grandmothers, aunts and family friends who mother us all deserve a card.
