30-Ball Bingo (Speed Bingo): Rules, Card and How Fast It Plays

Quick answer

30-ball bingo, also called speed bingo, is the fastest bingo format. Each card is a 3×3 grid with 9 numbers chosen from 1 to 30, and there is no free space. Numbers are drawn quickly, and the usual way to win is a full house: marking all nine numbers. With hundreds of cards in play, a winner usually appears within 15 to 20 calls.

What does a 30-ball bingo card look like?

A 30-ball card is a small 3×3 grid holding 9 numbers from 1 to 30. There’s no free space and no B-I-N-G-O header.

Many sites lay the card out in columns, with the first column taking numbers from 1–10, the second from 11–20 and the third from 21–30:

Column Numbers Squares
1 1–10 3
2 11–20 3
3 21–30 3

With that layout, there are 120 × 120 × 120 = 1,728,000 different sets of numbers a card can hold. That’s tiny compared with the 552 septillion possible 75-ball cards, but still far more than any room will ever sell in one game.

How do you play 30-ball bingo?

  1. Buy one or more cards before the game starts.
  2. Numbers 1–30 are drawn in quick succession. Online, marking is usually automatic.
  3. The first full house wins. Mark all nine numbers to claim the prize. Some rooms also pay for a line.
  4. Ties split the prize. If two cards finish on the same ball, the prize is usually shared.

Because 9 of the 30 numbers are on every card, each ball has a 30% chance of being on any given card. That’s why games end so fast.

How many calls does 30-ball bingo take?

We calculated the typical (median) call on which the first full house appears:

Cards in play First full house
1 Call 29
50 Call 21
500 Call 17
5,000 Call 14

A single card needs 27.9 calls on average (9 × 31 ÷ 10) to fill. In other words, a lone card usually needs nearly every ball in the machine, but in a busy room someone fills a card about halfway through.

Is 30-ball bingo a good game?

It depends what you want from bingo.

Pros Cons
Very quick games Little time to enjoy the build-up
Simple card, easy to follow Prizes are usually small
Lots of games in a short session Fast pace makes it easy to overspend

The speed is the main thing to watch. Short games mean more games per hour, and if each game costs money, spending can climb quickly. Set a budget and a time limit first. Our responsible gaming page has more tips.

Can you play 30-ball bingo at home?

Yes, and it’s great for young kids or short attention spans. Draw a 3×3 grid on paper, fill it with nine numbers from 1 to 30 (or use the column layout above) and draw numbers with our bingo number generator set to 30. A single round takes a few minutes even when calling slowly.

Can you play 30-ball bingo online in the US?

Speed bingo has mainly been offered by online bingo sites outside the US. Real-money online bingo is legal only in a few US states, and sweepstakes sites are banned in a growing number of them. Read our online bingo guide to see what’s allowed where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 30-ball bingo called speed bingo?

With only 30 numbers and 9 squares per card, games end after a small number of calls. Online rooms also call numbers quickly, so a full game can take a minute or two.

How do you win 30-ball bingo?

Most 30-ball games are won with a full house, which means marking all nine numbers on your 3×3 card. Some sites also offer smaller prizes for lines.

What are the odds of winning 30-ball bingo?

If every player has one card, your chance of winning is roughly one divided by the number of cards in play, with prizes split on ties. Fewer players means better odds but usually smaller prizes.

Can you play 30-ball bingo in a bingo hall?

It's rare. 30-ball is designed for online play, where fast automatic calling and marking make the speed practical. US halls mainly play 75-ball bingo.
